At The Intersection Of 11th & Palumbo

It’s almost here. The long offseason is almost over and basketball is a mere three weeks from today. What better way to celebrate then air some grievances about preseason polls and talk Palumbo renovations. It’s not quite festive but it’s close! Let’s do it up!

I really want to put something out there. Preseason polls such as the one that was released Thursday morning are absolutely meaningless. At A10 media day in Brooklyn Duquesne was selected to finish 11th by voters. I could go on and on about how this is not going to be the case when we tip-off on November 10th, but it ultimately doesn’t matter.

I suspect Coach Dambrot likes it this way. It’s no secret that teams play better when they have a chip on their shoulder. And make no mistake about it, this will put an enormous chip on that shoulder.

I had predicted Duquesne to finish 6th in the conference but just like the people who voted, my opinion is meaningless too. The games are played on the court and not on a sheet of paper.

It’s been 18 months in the making but we are finally getting an announcement on Tuesday on the long awaited and much needed renovations to Palumbo Center. This is a two-pronged situation. On one hand it will be great for recruiting and the overall

growth of the program in general. The second part is that Duquesne will need to find a venue to play home games in the 2019-20 season.

I’ve heard many different things on the subject from playing at Pitt or RMU to even playing games at the convention center. This is an important decision and one that will hopefully will be announced Tuesday with the renovation plans. Wait and see.
